Career-best finishes for skipper Jordan Dawson, midfielder Rory Laird and veteran forward Taylor Walker headlined a successful 2023 Brownlow Medal count for Adelaide. 

The trio were among 11 Crows to poll votes on the night, with an overall tally of 77 being the seventh highest of any team. 

Dawson - whose move into the midfield earned him a maiden All Australian blazer - finished the night with an equal team-high 20 votes, more than doubling the eight he had gathered over his career to date. 

The 26-year-old was awarded five best on ground performances (coming in Rounds Three, Four, Eight, Nine and 21) and polled votes on nine occasions. 

The first-year skipper topped the Crows’ count alongside Laird, who polled 20 votes for the first time in his career. 

Eclipsing his previous high of 19 (which came in 2018) by one vote, the midfielder was Adelaide’s most prominent vote-getter on the night, gaining the attention of the umpires in 12 matches. 

Laird and Dawson finished the night in a tie for 13th place alongside Greater Western Sydney Captain Toby Greene. 

Walker capped off a 76-goal campaign with a career-high 16 Brownlow votes, overtaking Tyson Edwards and Simon Goodwin to become the Crows’ seventh-highest poller of all time. 

The 33-year-old commanded three votes in victories over Hawthorn (Round Six), West Coast (Round 13 and 24) and Port Adelaide (Round 20). 

He also polled two votes against St Kilda in Round Nine and Collingwood in Round 15.

Recruit Izak Rankine also had a career-best Brownlow Medal night, polling seven votes and being rewarded with his first best on ground performance. 

Those three votes came in the Round 16 win over North Melbourne, where he booted five goals and recorded 17 disposals. 

Forward Darcy Fogarty and ruckman Reilly O’Brien each polled on two occasions to finish on three votes. 

Young guns Riley Thilthorpe (two) and Jake Soligo (one) received their first Brownlow votes following impressive performances against Port Adelaide (Round Three) and Collingwood (Round Seven).

Ben Keays (two), Rory Sloane (two) and Brodie Smith (one) rounded out the Crows’ vote getters.
