South Australia’s football community has raised almost $160,000 for Victoria’s bushfire survivors through its Bushfire Bash For Cash at AAMI Stadium.

Last Tuesday’s Bushfire Bash, which saw the Power defeat the Crows in a Twenty20 match, raised $159,618 for the Red Cross Bushfire Appeal.

The total figure included money raised through ticket sales, food and drink sales, club pledges and corporate sponsorship of the event.

SANFL Executive Commissioner Leigh Whicker today acknowledged all football fans for their support of the Bushfire Bash.

“This wonderful contribution truly shows the spirit of sportsmanship – it has been about lending a hand when it is needed the most,” he said.

“I would like to thank each and every South Australian who got behind this cause to help our Victorian friends and neighbours.”

Adelaide chief executive Steven Trigg also acknowledged the widespread support.

“We are very proud of the efforts of the football community in South Australia in bringing together such a successful event in such a short space of time.

“A big thank you to all of those who put it together, and in particular, those who attended on the night, in helping to raise significant funds for those who have suffered through the Bushfire disaster.”

The cheque will be given to the Red Cross this week.
