Every dog has its day
Matthew Jaensch, Taylor Walker, Ricky Henderson, Richard Douglas, Matthew Wright, Luke Thompson and Peter Jonas got off to a dream start as greyhound owners after their dog ‘Wot Ya Wot’ stormed to victory by eight lengths in his first race. The impressive canine ran the fastest 400m time in Australia at Globe Derby on Wednesday night despite being six kilograms heavier than the next-heaviest dog. Like all good owners the boys backed their pride and joy, reaping early rewards of their investment.

Formal lunch suits Rory
Mild-mannered defender Rory Laird was the subject of a locker room prank recently. The players were about to leave West Lakes for a lunch put on by the good folk at Aussie Ripper Roast.  A senior player or two asked Lairdy if he’d remembered to bring his Club suit for the lunch. Panicked, Laird responded that he didn’t have his suit and proceeded to rush home to grab it. The rest of the players, all wearing casual clothes, had a good laugh when Lairdy rocked up for the lunch wearing Club suit complete with tie. Realising he’d been duped; Lairdy was a good sport about it and ate his spit-roast in formal attire.

The great race
The greatest-ever Paralympian in Australian history, Matt Cowdrey has just about achieved it all … but the star swimmer recently set his sights on winning the inaugural Sloane/Cowdrey Cup when the Crows Ambassador took on midfielder Rory Sloane in a 50m freestyle race at West Lakes. Sloaney had the benefit of close to a 15m head start, but was it enough? Watch the video above and find out ...
The swim was good preparation for Cowdrey, who will compete at the World Championships in Montreal this month. Good luck Matt!

At home with Sloane
Fans will also have a chance to see Sloaney in a different light when the Better Homes and Gardens team visits he and partner Belinda. The episode featuring Sloaney and Belinda will air on 7 Mate on Friday, August 9. Tune in!

Country Crow a champ
The Crows couldn’t quite get the result against Fremantle, but another member of the Adelaide nest tasted victory in WA last weekend. Community Development Assistant Nigel Osborn was part of the SA Country team that beat WA by seven goals in heavy conditions at Perth Oval. Former Crows development officer Joel Kay, who now works with the SANFL, was also part of the victorious side. From Grange, Nige plays club footy for Bernie Vince’s junior team, the CMS Crows, who won a premiership last season.

Trucking on
Full-back Ben Rutten will get a head start on pre-season training after signing up to ride in the 400km Redliners Classic in October. The three-day fundraising event will see participants cycle from Adelaide to Mannum and back. Proceeds from the ride will go to the Crows Foundation, supporting South Australian kids in need.
