Key defender Jordon Butts has undergone surgery on a fractured foot that will sideline him for the rest of the season.

Butts was subbed out of Saturday night’s Showdown win over Port Adelaide in the second quarter and scans later revealed he had fractured his right foot.

“Jordon had his surgery in the last 24 hours, he had that fifth metatarsal fixed and it all went well so he’ll begin a period of off legs recovery and we’ll look to get him running as soon as possible,” Crows High Performance Manager Darren Burgess said.

“Generally (with an injury like this) they return to play around that three-month period so his off-season running program will be adjusted slightly, otherwise he will be involved in a full pre-season and come back bigger and better than ever I’m sure.”

Fellow defender Nick Murray has also had successful surgery to repair his anterior cruciate ligament he ruptured against Melbourne in Round 19.

“Muz had his surgery last week and it all went well, he’s in a period of off legs as well, he can’t do much for the next couple of weeks and after that he will come into the club and start to move around and get his rehab up and going,” Burgess said.

Forward Izak Rankine is making promising progress in his recovery from a hamstring injury and may be available to play Brisbane next week.

“Izak is doing well, he’s had a couple of on-ground running sessions already and we are hoping that he will be available for the Brisbane game all going well between now and then,” Burgess said.

Young midfielder Zac Taylor will be sidelined indefinitely after a decision to surgically remove the plate in his foot after he suffered a Lisfranc injury in April.

Izak Rankine (hamstring) 1-2 weeks
Andrew McPherson (quad) 2-3 weeks
