Former Adelaide forward Peter Turner was 17 years old when he first arrived at the Crows in 1991.
Peter was part of the Crows’ inaugural list and went on to play three games for the Crows in 1994.
Now, three decades later, his daughter, Polly, is hoping to don the Crows guernsey in the AFLW.
In accordance with AFLW rules, a player only has to have lined up in one AFL game for a club for his daughter to qualify for father-daughter selection.
Polly is one of four father/daughter prospects involved in Adelaide’s Next Generation Academy and, along with 11 others in the program, spent last Friday training with the Club’s AFLW side.
Speaking to AFC Media, Polly said her Dad had encouraged her to follow in his footsteps.
“I grew up playing basketball but then when I was around the age of seven my Dad wanted to get me into footy and I’ve loved it ever since,” Polly said.
“Dad comes to all my games and he was my coach for three years.
“He’s still one of my biggest supporters.”
The NGA Academy includes players from Indigenous and multicultural backgrounds, as well as father-daughter prospects.
Polly said she was proud to have been welcomed into the Crows’ headquarters and taking part in an AFLW pre-season training session was an eye-opening experience.
“It was really nerve-wracking at first but really exciting to be playing and training with them,” Polly said.
“It’s been really good, having CJ (Crows Premiership player Courtney Cramey) as the coach and having all the girls around has been really helpful.
“I’ve made so many new friendships through the Academy that I never thought would happen so it's been really good.”
AFLW Assistant Coach and Female Academies Coordinator Marijana Rajcic said the Father-Daughter Academy was a great way for past players and their children to stay involved with the Club.
“We want to be connected and that's the past, present, and future,” Rajcic said.
“It’s a way of giving the girls the opportunity to see a pathway to AFLW.
“It’s really important for those girls to know that, yeah their Dad’s played for the club but so can they, if that’s something that they choose.
“Regardless, whether they play or don’t play they are still part of our Crows family”.
