Adelaide defender Josh Worrell says the environment Senior Coach Matthew Nicks has created at the Crows has made him want to “stay and be part of something special”.
Worrell, who last month signed a two-year contract extension with the Club, has played seven AFL games after a thorough apprenticeship in the SANFL.
Joining Sauce and Thomo on last week’s edition of The Crows Radio Show, Worrell outlined some of his biggest influences since arriving at West Lakes in 2019.
“Nicksy has been massive (for me), we both came into the Club at the same time so it’s been nice to see the group grow together and the environment he’s created has made me want to stay and be a part of something special,” Worrell said.
“In terms of the players, (former Crow) Jake Kelly was massive for me at the beginning of my career, while the likes of Reilly O’Brien and Taylor Walker have been great influences on me as well.
“There are so many great mentors at this Club and they’ve really helped me along my journey.”
Another major influence on Worrell’s journey to date has been the Club’s SANFL program.
Worrell has featured in 35 League games across the past three seasons and said the competition had served as the perfect platform to develop his game.
“The transition to the AFL from the SANFL team has been very good,” Worrell said.
“It’s obviously very different footy, but I think the SANFL holds you in really good stead for what’s to come.
“The competition is of a really high standard and being exposed to that has really helped me develop as a player.”
