The Crows AFLW team has capped off a history-making 12 months by being named the Team of the Year at the South Australian Sports Star of the Year Awards at Adelaide Oval on Friday night.
Senior Coach Bec Goddard was also named Coach of the Year at the gala event, recognition of the contribution she made to the success of the team in its inaugural season.
Co-captain Erin Phillips was a finalist in the Sports Star of the Year category, with the award going to marathon runner Jess Trengove.
The accolades are further acknowledgement of the impact the Crows AFLW team has had since being awarded a licence for the new national competition last year.
The Crows had five wins from seven home-and-away matches in the inaugural season and then went on to score a historic six-point win over the Brisbane Lions in the first Grand Final.
The team has since been bestowed a number of honours beyond winning the flag.
In September Goddard, who has been praised for her ability to bring together a team which had players based in both Adelaide and Darwin, was named the 2017 Football Women of the Year.
While Phillips, who was the standout in the Grand Final and was duly named best on ground, won the competition’s Best and Fairest, the AFL Players Association’s Most Valuable Player, the Crows Club Champion and Goal of the Year.
Midfielder Ebony Marinoff was awarded the AFLW Rising Star, while co-captain Chelsea Randall was the AFL Players Association’s Most Courageous.
Phillips, Randall, Marinoff, forward Sarah Perkins and defender Courtney Cramey were all named in the All Australian team, with Goddard as coach.
In April, the team was presented with the Key to the City at a special reception held at the Adelaide Town Hall.
