Crows defenders Kyle Cheney and Luke Brown recently joined Healthy Harold the giraffe at Largs Bay Primary School to help deliver vital education messages to young children.
Harold is the mascot of the Life Education SA which is a not-for-profit organisation empowering children and young people to make safer and healthier choice through education programs in mobile classrooms.
The Adelaide Football Club has joined forces with Life Education SA to help deliver these messages to South Australian children this year. The programs are age-aligned and suit pre-school through to secondary school students with the goal to visit 20,000 children in 2016.
Life Education South Australia CEO Michelle Wood said the organisation was thrilled to partner with the Adelaide Football Club in delivering the program this year.
“It’s wonderful to have the support of the Adelaide Football Club who clearly have a commitment to the health and wellbeing of the community at large and especially children,” Ms Wood said.
“The Club is very keen to support us in our endeavours to keep children safe and well, empowering them with knowledge, so that they are able to make informed choices related to alcohol and other drugs, nutrition and exercise, cybersafety, bullying and respectful behaviours, and general safety and wellness throughout their lives. Our exciting programs and the support that we give teachers and schools make a difference.”
Cheney said it was fun for the players to join students in the mobile classroom and help them work through the program.
“Some of the issues we discussed were around the importance of water and healthy eating choices,” Cheney said.
The Adelaide Football Club runs its own schools community program which will reach over 40,000 children across 200 schools throughout the state this year.
