Adelaide SANFL Senior Coach Michael Godden says players have had a pretty standard week of training, ahead of a break this weekend.

The SANFL scheduled a League-wide bye this weekend with the AFL's first Gather Round being hosted in South Australia.

And, with the Crows recording two wins from two State League games so far, Godden said it was important to maintain normality to keep hold of the momentum.

Speaking to AFC Media, Godden said the non-selected AFL players still had a main training session, while the development players were given an opportunity to return to their local clubs.

“If the AFL (side is) playing a game and we have a bye then we will train the non-selected players at the same level as a game, so they don’t miss out on anything," Godden said.

“The AFL non-selected trained on Wednesday and we then did a main session on Thursday.

“The development players trained Tuesday night and then they trained again locally on Thursday night, with some starting Round One of local footy this weekend.

“(For) the development players it is an opportunity for them to reconnect with their local clubs because they don’t get to go back to the club they are playing at a lot of the time."

Adelaide’s SANFL side is atop of the ladder after defeating Port Adelaide in Round One by 78 points and West Adelaide by 33 points last weekend.

Godden said he was pleased with how well his side had kicked off this campaign.

“The guys have followed on from last year in both squads, so the non-selected AFL have gone to another level and the development squad are going really well too,” Godden said.

“The role we play in the SANFL is a multi-role and one of them is to win and play well, which I believe we are doing, but one is to make sure players are ready to play AFL.

“One of the most pleasing things from my end is how happy Nicksy and the Club is with the guys that have come up after being in the SANFL program for a couple of weeks, like Ned McHenry, Lachie Sholl and Riley Thilthorpe.

“It’s a real credit to all the people working in the SANFL program to get those guys ready to perform at a high level.”

Adelaide’s SANFL team plays Central District at Elizabeth Oval on Saturday, April 22, at 1:10pm.
