Adelaide Assistant Coach Scott Burns says the Crows showed plenty of “ticker” following their Showdown victory at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night.
The Crows found themselves four points down midway through the final quarter, only to rally, kicking the final six goals of the match to prevail by 31 points.
Speaking to the media on Monday, Burns said the players had finally been rewarded for their efforts.
“I didn’t learn anything more (about the group), that (type of performance) has always been there with us,” Burns said.
“We know the boys have plenty of ticker, with some talented youngsters as well as the old-timers like Sloaney (Rory Sloane) who were really instrumental.
“It’s just a solid win, it’s more the fact that being two rounds in with no wins it just gives us a bit of a boost of confidence, but the games we had played before were hard games.
“To get the result, obviously in the Showdown as well, not only our players but our supporters were very happy as well.”
Burns also heaped praise on first-year defender Max Michalanney, who amassed 12 disposals, five tackles, 214 metres gained and five intercept possessions.
“When you’ve got a player like him who has come in and played three games it’s nearly what you expect from Maxy, ever since the first day he came to training he’s been terrific for us,” Burns said.
“It shows a fair bit of character the young man has got.”
Burns said the Crows were pleased with the win but players were still hungry to further improve.
“There are little bits and pieces that we need to tidy up, we did do that to an extent against Port Adelaide, but we certainly aren’t a finished product,” Burns said.
“We’ve got a lot of work to do to get things right and I think we’ve got high achievers at this football Club, we are not happy where we are at.
“We are pleased we got the result on the weekend, but we want to be better than what we are and we are on that journey at the moment.
“(That win) shows that things are just starting to turn in the right direction.”
