The 19-year-old collected 23 possessions, took eight marks and made eight spoils and didn’t lose a one-on-one contest all day against North Adelaide at Prospect.
Trent Hentschel strained a hamstring in the last couple of minutes but earlier he was impressive in his first game since early April. He had 22 possessions in defence and moved well. North’s Matthew Wright had his quietest game for some time, with 15 possessions.
Jack Gunston made an impact with his 13 disposals for top side Central District against Glenelg. The versatile 18-year-old booted two goals in the third term and the Crows scout marked him down for six goal assists. For the Tigers, James Sellar kicked 1.1 from 13 possessions and also had 18 hit outs before hurting a knee in the last term.
Chris Schmidt was rated high among West Adelaide’s best in its loss to Norwood. He worked hard to pick up 27 possessions. Jason Porplyzia had a solid game back at West. He spent most of the game on the ball, with an occasional rest in attack, and finished with 22 possessions and two goals.
Sturt’s Aidan Riley again showed promise with a 20-possession effort in the big win over South Adelaide. He regularly won first possession around the stoppages and is adding powerful run to his game. Brodie Martin played his first match for 11 months (see other story on website) and had 16 possessions. He was a bit “rusty” but ran hard and had three shots on goal.
Shaun McKernan tried to lift South, earning 15 possessions as a forward/ruckman. Myke Cook made a bright start for South but faded and finished with 12 possessions.
Jarrhan Jacky went back to the Eagles reserves and performed well at half back with 22 possessions. Brian Donnelly hurt a shoulder early in Central’s reserves game.
