The Adelaide Crows Foundation is teaming up with Treasure Boxes to support its annual Christmas appeal for SA’s disadvantaged and vulnerable children.
This festive season the rising cost of living means many South Australian families will be doing it tough and the appeal aims to support 350 families in need, providing them with essential items so they can share in the magic of Christmas.
Treasure Boxes provides necessities such as cots, clothing, toys, nappies, car seats and other nursery equipment for infants and families who would otherwise not have access to these critical items.
Adelaide Crows Foundation Manager Louise McDonald said the appeal was more vital this year than ever before.
“The lead up to Christmas is a particularly stressful time for families already struggling to make ends meet. The overwhelming desire to give children a joyful Christmas creates enormous pressure,” McDonald said.
“More and more families are needing support so they can access basic essentials to keep their kids safe, warm and clean.
“We’re proud to continue our partnership with Treasure Boxes to support this appeal and help ensure disadvantaged families and children can have a happy and safe Christmas.”
AFL Player Wayne Milera has a long association with Treasure Boxes and has thrown his support behind the initiative.
“I’ve seen the work Treasure Boxes do in the community and, being a Dad, it breaks my heart to think that kids will be going without this Christmas,” Milera said.
“The playing group and staff are getting behind this appeal and, if they can, we hope our supporters will too.”
Donations can be made via the Treasure Boxes website here.
- A $15 donation will provide a month’s supply of nappies
- $35 will provide a clothing pack for a child
- $75 buys a safe cot for a newborn
- $350 provides all of the essentials for a family of four, including clothes, shoes, toys and bedding
Treasure Boxes CEO Rikki Cooke thanked the Adelaide Crows Foundation for its support.
“The families we see are regularly faced with the heartbreaking choice of either paying their skyrocketing rent, buying just enough food to see them through for a few days, or purchasing a small packet of nappies or a few pieces of clothing to clothe their children,” Cooke said.
“The reality is that the latter is almost always sacrificed – reducing the safety and wellbeing of our most vulnerable population.
“Every year in the lead up to Christmas, Treasure Boxes sees more referrals than at any other time of the year. Our Christmas appeal is about caring for our struggling families right now when they need it the most and we sincerely appreciate every bit of support for it.”
The Adelaide Crows Foundation delivers a range of health and education programs which use the power of sport to engage and empower disadvantaged South Australian children and youth, helping them reach their full potential.
