Midfielder Ebony Marinoff has had surgery on a syndesmosis injury and will not resume full training for three months.
The midfielder injured her left ankle in the Crows’ game against Geelong in Round Nine and continued to play through it as Adelaide reached the preliminary final.
Head of Women’s Football Phil Harper said despite trying to correct the injury with a moon boot, it was decided that Marinoff would require surgery.
“The surgery was a success with an estimated three-month recovery process, but she should be up and firing by March with enough time to be ready for the next pre-season,” Harper said.
“The fact Ebony was able to play through with the syndesmosis injury is one of the more amazing efforts I’ve seen in my 25 years at the Club.”
Adelaide winger Niamh Kelly will also have surgery in the off-season on a shoulder injury she sustained early in Season Seven.
Kelly dislocated her shoulder in the Round Four game against Collingwood during a goal-saving tackle and returned to play in Round Eight.
Harper said the off-season break had come at a good time for the recovery periods of both players.
“Niamh played the season out after returning from the initial injury but in most games her shoulder would sub lux out and need to be put back in,” Harper said.
“She will go in for surgery in mid-December with her recovery period looking like 4-6 months, but she will be right for the start of pre-season.”
