Adelaide is preparing for a range of scenarios in this week’s national draft after nominating father-son prospect Max Michalanney.
This year’s draft will be held over two days with the first round tonight and all remaining selections to be made on Tuesday night.
The Crows currently have Picks 46, 56 and 59 after completing a pick swap last month and using this year’s first round selection to secure Izak Rankine in a trade with Gold Coast.
National Recruiting Manager Hamish Ogilvie said the Club remained open-minded about a range of scenarios that may unfold over the next two nights.
“With live trading and the trading of future picks you need to prepare for everything so we are open minded,” Ogilvie said.
“This year is a bit different to previous years in that we were able to use our first round selection to bring in Izak Rankine which is a massive win for the Club.
“We have picks 46, 56 and 59 but they are likely to come in a bit after father-son and academy nominations are made, and we have been able to maintain a good hand for next year with a first and two second-round selections in 2023.
“We will wait to see where the bid comes for Max Michalanney and without putting an exact number on it, we are prepared for a range of scenarios to play out on the night.”
Michalanney’s father Jim played 211 games and in four premierships with Norwood between 1974 and 1986, making him eligible to be drafted by the Crows under the AFL’s father-son rule.
The 18-year-old played three League games for Norwood this year while being part of the Crows’ Next Generation Academy.
“He’s obviously a quality young player, we’ve nominated him as part of the process and as always we will stay true to our talent order and see how the draft unfolds,” Ogilvie said.
