Adelaide is embracing the underdog tag ahead of its blockbuster with Brisbane at Metricon Stadium on Friday night, says Head of Women's Football Phil Harper.
The Crows have the same win/loss record as the Lions, but are second on percentage with the Season Five Premiers sitting first.
Speaking to media at the airport on Thursday, Harper said the Lions had performed strongly so far this campaign and deserved to be favourites.
But he backed the Crows to be up for the challenge.
“We’re coming up against a pretty good opponent,” Harper said.
“The bookmakers and the experts are suggesting they’re (Brisbane) the favourites to win the Premiership and we want to be in that conversation, so the way to be in it is to make a statement.
“It’s always good to be the underdog, that doesn’t worry us that much.
“They’re a powerful side, the way they play and score really heavily, so we’ll have our work cut out but we’ve been pretty good in the past three to four games.”
The reigning Premiers’ season got off to a rocky start after losing to Melbourne in Round One’s Grand Final rematch but the Crows have not lost a match since.
Harper said the players’ preparation and dedication to always improving was behind the form.
“They’re a quality group of people and exceptionally good footballers as well and they prepare like nothing else to try and be good, whether we’re playing home or away,” Harper said.
“That’s probably the secret - good people, good quality players.
“I think we’re a bit more settled in a few positions, we’re seven weeks in now and we tried a lot of things.
“We had to find the right mix to get us playing our best footy but we think we’ve got that now.”
Adelaide takes on Brisbane at Metricon Stadium on Friday night, with the first bounce at 8pm (ACDT).
The team will be selected later on Thursday.
