Adelaide has made one change to its team for the inaugural Showdown against cross-town rival Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval on Friday night.

Two-time Premiership defender Marijana Rajcic will return to the side, while utility Jasmine Simmons has been omitted.

Crows AFLW Coach Matthew Clarke said his side was keen to add a new chapter to the fierce rivalry between the two clubs with the first women’s Showdown.

Clarke said Rajcic had worked hard to prove she deserved to earn her spot back in the team.

“MJ comes back into the side, (she provides) great experience and has trained really well over the past three weeks,” Clarke said.

“She played strongly in the scratch match we had against Port Adelaide last weekend and deserves her opportunity to get back amongst it.

“On the flip side, Jas is probably very unlucky to come out of the side.

“The reality of this season is that we are having to manage our squad a little bit differently because of the lack of genuine other football that they’re able to play.

“In order to generate opportunities for some, others miss out and she’s (Simmons) the unfortunate player this week.”

Meanwhile, two-time Premiership forward Danielle Ponter will miss a third game in a row, as she continues to recover from a quad strain sustained at training earlier this month.

Adelaide plays Port Adelaide in AFLW Showdown I at Adelaide Oval on Friday, with the first bounce at 7.30pm.
