After Adelaide’s 2022 campaign came to an end, the leadership group - Rory Sloane, Tom Doedee, Ben Keays, Jordan Dawson, Reilly O’Brien and Brodie Smith -  opened up on how it saw the Crows’ 2022 campaign.

The six players spoke to AFC Media and revealed what their favourite moment of the Crows’ campaign was.

TOM DOEDEE

“The goal after the Showdown is pretty hard to beat.

“I think that’s because of the pure joy in that moment when the ball went through, I was standing at the top of the goal square and I could see it swinging late.

“When I realised it was swinging late and it was going through, the running over to Daws and the celebration and just the smiles.

“My nephew was over and his parents had gone to sleep and he had stirred a bit and I was awake at 3am because I was still up and about after the game, so Em and I just nursed him back to sleep talking about how good the game was.

“There've been a lot of positive moments this year, but in terms of pure, favourite moments, something that I will absolutely never forget is that feeling once that ball went through and knowing we upset Port during the Showdown.

“To do it after the siren is the craziest moment I’ve been a part of.”

RORY SLOANE

“Hard to go past the early Showdown win when we welcomed Daws to the Club with the kick after the siren.

“That was pretty special and you’ll never see a welcome to a footy club like that, I don’t think.

“It’s a Showdown and ‘here you go have the footy after the siren’ and he put it through the middle.”

BEN KEAYS

“My favourite moment, for me personally, was probably the Carlton game.

“I played a little bit of a different role and it was another strong performance against a side that was in finals contention.

“It sparked a little bit of a winning streak for us.

“That was a great night. I had a mate down from Brisbane as well who was able to go to that game and watch and that was the first win that he saw, so it was good.”

REILLY O’BRIEN

“I loved playing in Lairdy’s 200th game over in Perth.

“That was awesome, he’s obviously a great mate and he’s been an absolute superstar of the Club.

“Being able to play alongside him in that and get the win against a pretty hostile West Coast crowd in Josh Kennedy’s last game was pretty awesome.”

JORDAN DAWSON

“The first Showdown win.

“Not just because I kicked the goal but I think just getting the first win for the year and from my point of view with a new Club.

“Obviously with it being against the cross-town rivals, that was a pretty special moment.”

BRODIE SMITH

“Without a doubt, Dawson’s kick after the siren in the Showdown.

“I had never played in a game where a game has been decided after the siren.

“For Daws to do that in his first Showdown and for us to get a Showdown win early in the year was huge.

“Captaining the side during that game with Rory out also added to it. It was a special night for myself and my family.

“Being an SA boy and being to so many Showdowns over the years, being able to Captain one was special.

“A win after the siren and Captaining a Showdown is very special.”
