Adelaide AFLW three-time Premiership defender Sarah Allan says her side is keen for the “unknown” of facing Richmond for the first time.

The Crows and Richmond have never come up against each other, despite the Tigers entering the competition in 2020.

Speaking to AFC Media, the Vice Captain said Allan Crows were keen to test themselves against the Tigers, who were also coming off an opening round loss.

“It’s exciting when you haven’t faced a team before because it’s that unknown but we’ve obviously wanted to play them the past few years,” Allan said.

“They’ve got a really great midfield and some strong forwards, so we have to win the ball in the midfield and at the clearances.

“They’ve also got some great aerial, contested marks up forward, so we have to minimise the opportunities we give them.”

“It’s exciting when you haven’t faced a team before.

Players will head to Melbourne on Friday, with the side set to play on Saturday and Allan said flying out a day before the game would help with preparation.

“With Covid the past year or so, flying out the day before the game is something we’ve missed, so it’s nice not to have an early morning plane ride.

“We’ll be able to go over earlier, rest and do a Captain’s Run or a walk through over there.

“It always helps with team bonding as well when we can get over there early.”

Allan said the side was not dwelling on the Round One loss to Melbourne but would work hard to quickly fix what led to the result.

“Obviously it was disappointing but we are a team that takes a lot out of the games we do lose,” Allan said.

“I think that’s what we do well, we learn a lot from it, especially because our season is so short, we have to move on pretty quickly.

“We are hoping to turn it around straight away.”

The Crows play Richmond at Punt Road Oval on Saturday at 11.10am (ACST).

“It’s so important for us to bounce back,” Allan said.

“We will take what we learnt from the Melbourne game and hopefully put it to use this weekend.”
