See what Geelong coach Chris Scott had to say following his side’s 30-point win over Adelaide on Saturday.
On the notoriously difficult task of playing Geelong at Simonds Stadium…
“It’s hard when you only play at a venue once a year or sometimes even less than that for the Crows, so definitely an advantage for us.
“I’d like it to be a stronger advantage than it is, we play eight games here this year; I’m looking forward to the day when we play 11 home games like every other team.”
On Geelong’s defensive structure in difficult conditions…
“It was good for us to adapt to the conditions a bit better and to defend a team that have been really hard to defend this year was pleasing.
“I know the conditions made it a bit tougher for them but they’re dangerous when they can get the ball over the top and they kick a lot of goals from close in.
“I thought even though the conditions maybe helped us a little bit our defensive stability was pretty good.”
On being able to restrict the Crows’ scores from turnovers…
“The defensive part was probably the key to the game for us and that probably speaks to how much we respect (Adelaide’s) scoring potency.
“(The Crows are) the No.1 team in the competition in scoring from turnovers and we’ve been pretty solid at defending those situations.
“If anything, we thought that if we could win that battle, we’d find enough chances to score the other way.”
A more even contribution was important to the Cats’ win…
“We’ve had a few guys who have been down and a few guys under pressure internally and I know the external focus has been on a couple of guys, probably Hawkins and (Steven) Motlop who were pretty good tonight.
“We’re – I can honestly say – excited about what we can do if we can get a lift from probably a third of the team that are below expectations.
“I thought it was pretty even tonight, you’re right, I mean Dangerfield was still pretty good and Selwood was really good but we didn’t think that we were depending on our midfield.
On Jed Bews’ job on Eddie Betts…
“(Eddie) Betts is a very, very difficult player to play on, he was up the ground a little bit more tonight, which probably made it a little more complicated for Jed and our defensive group.
“It was exciting for us that (Bews) was able to slot back in, I think it was only his second game for the year.”
