Three-time premiership player Anne Hatchard has ignored interest from AFLW expansion clubs and signed a contract extension which keeps her at the Crows until at least the end of Season Eight.
Arguably the competition’s best player, Hatchard capped an incredible Season Six by claiming the medal for best afield in the Grand Final win against Melbourne, before winning Adelaide’s Club Champion award for the second time.
The 24-year-old came close to winning the AFLW’s best and fairest award, finishing just one vote behind winner Emily Bates from Brisbane.
Hatchard, who is a three-time All-Australian, arrived at the Club from Morphettville Park and debuted in 2017, and has since played 49 AFLW games.
Hatchard said the Crows’ strong culture and a desire to be part of more success were the driving forces behind her decision to deflect rival offers.
“I love this Club and I love the players, so it was an absolute no-brainer to extend my contract for another two years,” Hatchard said.
“The coaches and staff here have shown so much belief in me, especially when I was struggling early on in my career, so I definitely want to repay that faith.
“I have so much trust in this squad and I can’t wait to be a part of the journey going forward.”
Hatchard will now continue her dominant midfield partnership with Ebony Marinoff, who also signed a contract extension on Wednesday.
Crows Head of Women’s Football Phil Harper said Hatchard’s decision to remain at West Lakes reflected the strength of the program, as well as the connection the players had forged.
“There was lots of interest from other clubs and we are excited to have Anne staying on and equally so for what the future holds,” Harper said.
“She is firmly in the top echelon of players in the League and given her drive and commitment, we feel she can get even better.
“As a Club, we are determined to stay at the forefront of the competition and we are in the process of putting together another strong squad.”
