Adelaide champion Andrew McLeod will have surgery on his left foot on Monday and will miss the next three or four matches.

He will have a bursa (a sac of fluid) removed from the foot, which has troubled him for several weeks but hardly seems to have dimmed his brilliance for he shone again in the Crows' 72-point win against the Kangaroos at AAMI Stadium on Friday night.

Adelaide coach Neil Craig said after the match that McLeod's surgery was 'not the ideal scenario'.

"We decided to try to get through the season with another method, which worked to a certain extent, but in fairness to Andrew the best situation is to get that foot right, to go in and have an operation on Monday, and he'll miss somewhere between three and four weeks," he said.

"He's done a great job for our footy club, too. He's put up with a lot of pain, not so much when he trains or plays, but when the anaesthetic wears off it's been a really painful injury. To our supporters, members and sponsors out there, the sacrifice that Andrew has made in that area has been fantastic.

"Part of our decision-making was that we did have a lot of injuries. We knew that Ben Hart would be coming back about this time if we had to do something. Nathan van Berlo's not that far away, Jason Torney's played some football now.

"We need to do it now because of the timing. Three to four weeks - and hopefully everything goes well - gives him an opportunity to be available for the finals."
