Adelaide’s history-making AFLW team will be honoured with a public celebration in Rundle Mall on Monday.
Hosted by the South Australian Government and the City of Adelaide, the Crows will gather under the Rundle Mall canopy from 5pm to continue the celebrations after they won their third AFLW premiership on Saturday.
SA Premier Peter Malinauskas said the event was a fitting way to celebrate a team that had inspired young women and girls across the state after their grand final triumph over Melbourne at Adelaide Oval on the weekend.
“All South Australians – regardless of their team allegiance – should be immensely proud of the AFLW Crows’ inspiring victory and I look forward to seeing as many South Australians as possible at the premiership celebration,” he said.
“I congratulate the Adelaide Crows on their ground breaking achievements and I look forward to seeing women’s AFL continue to grow into the future.”
Adelaide CEO Tim Silvers urged football fans to join in the celebrations and recognise the personal and professional sacrifices the players and coaches had made to achieve team success amidst the pandemic.
“A third premiership from four grand finals in six years of the AFLW competition is an incredible achievement for our Club and credit must go to everyone involved in our women’s program,” Silvers said.
“Our players are genuine trailblazers for the game and role models for young people, both on and off the field, and we could not be prouder of them.
“We want to celebrate their success with as many South Australians as possible and this event in the city is a great way to start, and we are also planning to take the premiership cup on a tour of the state.”
