Adelaide has finalised its list of SANFL top-up players as part of the AFL’s Covid Contingency plan for this season.

The list features four members of the Crows’ SANFL team including midfielder Jay Boyle, experienced forward Matthew Wright and recruits Nathan Freeman and Isaya McKenzie.

Under the plan devised by the AFL and SANFL, Adelaide can nominate up to 20 state league players who would be available for AFL duties should the number of players available due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols reach the agreed threshold.

Adelaide can list a maximum of four players from each of its NGA-aligned clubs including Glenelg, Central District, North Adelaide and Sturt.

If a player is not selected for the Crows’ AFL team they will play for their own SANFL team, and SANFL clubs will be financially compensated for any games a player misses.

Crows Head of Football Adam Kelly thanked the SANFL, its clubs and players for their co-operation throughout the process.

“As an AFL industry the pandemic has taught us that we need to be prepared for all scenarios and that includes being able to field a team on a weekly basis,” he said.

“While we believe it would be unlikely that we would need to activate a player from our Covid contingency list, we now have some certainty over who we would have access to.

“We appreciate both the open communication and co-operation of the SANFL and its clubs in providing access to their players, and the willingness of the players to make themselves available should circumstances require.”
