Good sides find a way to win, according to Adelaide AFLW Coach Matthew Clarke.
And that’s exactly what Clarke believes his side did in its Round Nine clash against Collingwood at Norwood Oval on Sunday.
The Crows flew out of the blocks, holding the Magpies to no score in the first quarter.
But the visitors wrestled back the momentum, hitting the front during the third quarter before Adelaide managed to get back on top and hold on for the victory.
Speaking to the media post-game, Clarke praised his players for being able to withstand the immense pressure Collingwood piled on them.
But he said there was plenty to work on ahead of the final minor round this coming weekend against St Kilda in Melbourne.
“We were fortunate enough to win,” Clarke said.
“We had an outstanding first quarter but from then on, Collingwood had the better of the day.
“We were able to find a way to get the win but I think the start of the last (quarter) was probably another patch of good footy.
“But in the end some days it’s not pretty and to find a way to win like that is really significant.”
The Crows leapfrogged Melbourne and returned to top spot ahead of the last game before finals.
Although Adelaide had already secured a finals spot, Clarke said heading in with victories under the belt was paramount.
“The whole top six, top seven, is really tight, so it’s really important to win,” Clarke said.
“We let one slip by a point earlier in the season which could’ve cost us.
“Our pressure dropped away a bit (in the second quarter), so we reflected on that.
“We had belief in our conditioning and our ability to grind out games.
“Even though it wasn’t one of our better days, in terms of effort and intensity, that remained.”
Adelaide takes on St Kilda at RESA Park on Sunday, March 13, at 12.40pm (ACDT).
