Adelaide youngster Teah Charlton was one of the side’s most consistent players last season, having lined up in every game predominately at half-forward.
But she was determined to take her game to even greater heights and it was a frank discussion with Senior Coach Matthew Clarke that helped.
Charlton recorded a career-best number of disposals in the win against Fremantle on Saturday, amassing 18 touches.
She also recorded four clearances, three tackles and two marks, earning her Round Eight’s Rising Star nomination.
“Last year I played a few minutes in the midfield, so I was getting a bit of a taste for it,” Charlton said.
“Then in pre-season this year, Doc said to me, ‘Where do you want to play?’
“I said, ‘I’d like more minutes in the midfield” and, lucky for me, that's what ended up happening.
“I’m loving being in the midfield a lot more.
“I didn’t even realise I had as many touches on the weekend but I’m happy with where I’m at with my football and hopefully I can keep growing.”
The victory against the Dockers was the Crows’ seventh win of the 2022 campaign and secured the side a finals berth.
But with two minor rounds remaining, against Collingwood at home and then St Kilda in Melbourne, Charlton said players were just focusing on one week at a time.
“We are definitely touchable, we had that loss against the Western Bulldogs,” Charlton said.
“The girls are super proud of their efforts on the weekend and I think we are just really glad to get the win.
“We kind of celebrated straight after the game but once we were back on the plane and back home, we reset because we still have to keep winning to try and finish as high as we can.
“We are just super excited to come up against Collingwood this weekend and hopefully we can get that win as well.”
Adelaide takes on Collingwood at Norwood Oval on Sunday, March 6, at 2.40pm.
