Adelaide defender Sarah Allan says a poor start against the Western Bulldogs on Sunday is behind the loss and players are taking full responsibility for the result.

The Crows suffered their first loss of the 2022 campaign when they went down to the Bulldogs by one point at Norwood Oval.

Despite a frantic last quarter, the hosts found themselves on the back foot from the opening bounce when three quick goals were kicked against them.

Allan, who has acted as captain while skipper Chelsea Randall nursed a hamstring injury, said a lack of pressure in the early stages was what proved costly.

“We had a chat as a whole team after and just focused on what we need to do better and what we can all do better,” Allan said.

“It’s not just on one player, it’s on every single person in the team to play their role.

“It doesn’t come down to certain moments at the end.

“It’s not just on one player, it’s on every single person in the team to play their role.

“If we had been switched on from the start, that would’ve set the scene, so it’s on all of us.”

Allan said she was proud of her side’s spirited fightback.

But she told the media on Monday there were plenty of lessons to be learned from the defeat.

“Losing is part of football, it’s just something that happens,” Allan said.

“We will review it this week and definitely learn from it.

“It’s about making sure we take every opportunity for every game.

“We want to get better so this is just going to help us for the rest of the season.

Adelaide takes on GWS at Henson Park, NSW, this Saturday at 2.40pm (ACDT).
