Adelaide midfielder Ben Keays believes his voice and work ethic landed him a position in the Crows’ 2022 leadership group.

After a strong 2021 season featuring in every game, Keays was tapped on the shoulder to join Adelaide’s leaders following a Club vote.

On Friday, the former Brisbane Lion said his strong voice and work ethic could help him succeed in a leadership role.

“I feel like I’ve always been pretty vocal,” Keays said.

“Our group, an inexperienced group, we’re going to get in situations on the field where the game is in the balance.

“That’s an area I’ll drive, that voice in those crunch moments.

“Hopefully we’ll have a packed Adelaide Oval crowd so the noise will be up anyway.”

Keays was delisted by Brisbane at the end of 2019 and picked up by the Crows in the Rookie Draft.

Since then, he’s played 38 games in two seasons and finished third in Adelaide’s 2021 Best and Fairest.

“It’s been an interesting three years, I’ve absolutely loved joining the Crows,” Keays said.

“I’m so grateful the Club took a chance with me, I just put my head down and try to work as hard as I can… everything else is just a bonus.

“I’m sure it’s something I’ll look back on, but right now it’s head down and still putting in the work.”

Keays joined the leadership group alongside ruckman and 2020 Club Champion Reilly O’Brien.

“He’s (O’Brien) is probably the hardest worker we’ve got and he sets the example,” Keays said.

“He loves the little things, he loves the gym… he’s just a great example of what hard work can do.

“He won the Club Champ from that hard work (so) he’s going to bring a lot to the group.”
