Adelaide CEO Tim Silvers says the Club’s 2022 fixture brings with it plenty of opportunities for the side to shine and for Members and fans to see the Crows play live.
A Friday night home Showdown against cross-town rivals Port Adelaide headlines the Crows’ fixture before they host Richmond, reigning premier Melbourne and Collingwood.
Speaking to the media after the fixture release, Silvers said hosting the first Showdown in 2022, which would also be shown on live, free-to-air TV in South Australia, was a huge win.
Six of Adelaide’s first 10 matches will be at Adelaide Oval, which will give fans a huge boost following two Covid-affected seasons, according to Silvers.
“After a couple of years of the pandemic, we think it’s a win for our Members and fans,” Silvers said.
“We’ve been trying to source a Friday night Showdown since we moved to Adelaide Oval.
“I see this as a victory, not only for our Members and fans but for the entire South Australian community.
“Then getting some big Victorian teams at home is going to be really positive for our Members and fans.
“For us to play big Clubs like Richmond, Carlton, Collingwood and reigning premier Melbourne as home games is a massive opportunity for us.”
Time slots for Rounds 10-23 are yet to be locked in but Silvers said a floating fixture suited the Club.
“If we play well and we deserve marquee time slots and we are playing some big clubs, then hopefully we will get back to the Friday and Saturday night (games) that we think a Club of our standing deserves,” Silvers said.
He also encouraged Adelaide supporters to get along to Adelaide Oval and support the side as it looked to improve in 2022.
“We just want to get as many people to the footy as possible,” Silvers said.
“We showed what we could do at the start of last season when we got out of the blocks really well and we think we play a style of footy that people enjoy.”
