ADELAIDE ruckman Sam Jacobs says it's too early in the season for the Crows to lock in a finals berth, despite beating the previously undefeated Swans last weekend.

Jacobs said that given Adelaide's poor season in 2011, it was premature to suggest they had shown enough to be considered certain finalists.

"I don't think we should even be looking at [finals]," he said.

"Especially where we were last year … we're just focused on doing the things we are at the moment.

"We've got our key indicators and stuff like that that say if we do them well then we're going to win games, but we know it's only early in they year."

While reluctant to talk up Adelaide's future prospects, Jacobs admitted the side was off to a brilliant start but said it wouldn't be until later in the season that the Crows would truly know where they stood.

"We 're obviously sitting pretty well and we've had a good draw to start the year and now we're coming into another pretty challenging patch," he said.

"I guess in another couple of months time we'll know more about where we're going to sit this year.

"We're just focusing on the basics at the moment and as long as we're doing them well, hopefully the results will look after themselves."

The Crows have called up former Essendon rookie Josh Jenkins for Saturday's match against Geelong, with the basketball convert set to play as the side's second ruckman.

But Jacobs' said that Jenkin's ability to drift forward and kick goals might offer the home side an advantage over the reigning premiers.

"Josh has been in great form and he's had a great year for Sturt, so it's unfortunate for Shaun (McKernan) that he gets reported and goes out, but Josh is more than ready to go," he said.

"Geelong are only playing one ruckman as well, so I think with Josh there and his versatility, we should be able to get an advantage in the second ruck."

Jacobs said it would be important to make a statement at home on Saturday, against the most dominant side of the past decade.
