Adelaide captain Rory Sloane believes the future of the Club is bright with plenty of promising signs to come out of the 2021 campaign.

Speaking to The Optus Crows Show ahead of Adelaide’s final match of this year, Sloane said he had seen plenty of development from the side’s younger players.

The midfielder said he was looking forward to 2022.

“I think our year as a whole (has been) a lot more consistent than last year,” Sloane said.

“I mean it’s going to be one of those years that I look back on as a little bit frustrating too, because we were in so many games.

“There’s a lot of games we lost by about 10 points.

“But I know what this group’s capable of and that excites me more than anything.”

Sloane was set to line up in his 18th match for 2021 in Round 23 against North Melbourne, after missing four games due to injuries to his eye and finger respectively.

Despite finishing the year above average in clearances (5.3 per game) and tackles (4.7), the skipper said he wanted to improve ahead of 2022.

“Footy is made up of injuries and I’ve been extremely lucky over the years, again, I mean I only missed four games,” Sloane said.

“(I had) a couple of little niggles throughout this year.

“I was probably a bit inconsistent this year, it was probably one of my most inconsistent years for a while.”

Sloane said he hoped to be able to go back to Victoria during the off-season to see his family and friends, COVID-19 permitting, but was also keen to travel around SA.

“I feel so much for everyone in Victoria (and) NSW,” Sloane said.

“My family, Belinda’s family and a lot of our friends are in Victoria, so it would be great if the border eventually opens and we can see them.

“But I think we’ll stick around (during pre-season) and do a couple of trips here.”

Also on The Optus Crows Show, Brayden Cook reflects on his AFL debut and how he wants to improve during the upcoming off-season, while Senior Coach Matthew Nicks discusses the upcoming draft.

The Optus Crows Show airs on Channel 7 Adelaide this Sunday at 1.30pm.
