Adelaide youngster Lachie Gollant is set to make his AFL debut in the Crows’ Round 23 clash against North Melbourne.

But Senior Coach Matthew Nicks revealed the 20-year-old actually made his own pitch for selection the week prior.

Gollant has impressed in the Crows’ SANFL side this season, booting 14 goals and averaging 9.9 disposals and 3.6 marks.

So the forward took matters into his own hands - and Nicks’ office.

“We were actually really close to bringing Lachie in (in Round 22),” Nicks told the media.

“Lachie came into my office and told me there was a specific job he thought he could carry out.

“He came in and asked the question… he’s played some roles at SANFL level and he’s learning his craft. He’s a young key forward that loves jumping at the ball.

“I smiled and we enjoyed the conversation.

“I love that about him, he’s a student of the game and he doesn’t hold back.”

While Round 22 might not have been Gollant’s moment, No. 44 will get his chance this weekend.

“He’s stepping into some pretty big shoes, but we have complete confidence in him and what he’s going to bring,” Nicks said.

“We really look forward to seeing that next chapter. Lachie’s played some great footy over the season and deserves an opportunity, and he’ll get that this weekend.”

Adelaide takes on North Melbourne at Adelaide Oval on Sunday, August 22, with first bounce at 4.10pm.
