Some of the state’s most talented young players have taken part in the Crows 2021 Next Generation Academy (NGA) July school holidays program.

Ten members of Adelaide’s NGA under-14-16 Boys Squad spent time at West Lakes working with the Crows AFL Development and Academy coaches, focusing on skills, nutrition, and fitness.

They were joined by Tyler Welsh and Mitchell Stevens, who are both members of the Crows Father Son Academies.

The group spent time with former Adelaide ruckman Sam Jacobs, as well as current players James Borlase and Tariek Newchurch, who provided insights and experiences into their own Crows Academies NGA journey and the transition to the Senior AFL program.

Crows Academies Manager Jarrod Meers said some participants have travelled large distances to be part of the program. 

“This year’s players not only come from our four SANFL aligned clubs, but also regional areas including Mt Gambier, Pt Augusta, Whyalla and Murray Bridge,” Meers said.

“Mitchell Stevens and his dad Mark travelled over from country Victoria to spend time with his family and soak up the NGA program at West Lakes.

“The experience is designed to give these young men the opportunity to start to learn about our club, the rigors and expectations of AFL football, and get the opportunity to soak up an elite environment inside the Club. 

“Both James and Tariek commenced their NGA journey at the Club at exactly the same age as this year’s crop, and it is great to see them now pass on their experiences and advice to next generation of talent.”
