Crows defender Sam Shaw has been placed on the long-term injury list as he continues to recover from concussion-related symptoms.
Shaw, who has played 24 career AFL games, has been limited to four SANFL matches this season.
Adelaide adopted an ultra-conservative approach with the 25-year-old following a concussion sustained in the opening rounds of the SANFL season.
After a patient build-up, Shaw returned against the Port Magpies in Round 18, but hasn’t played since after being a late withdrawal from last week’s win over Norwood.
Crows Head of Football David Noble said Shaw’s health remained the priority.
“Sam is experiencing concussion-related symptoms, which include some lethargy after strenuous physical exercise,” Noble said.
“All along we have taken a cautious approach and slowly built up his training workload prior to his return in the recent SANFL Showdown.
“The AFL industry in general is far more aware and conservative with its treatment of concussion injuries nowadays and our Club is no different. So, we will once again back off his training levels and won’t consider him for selection.
“Importantly, his ability to function in daily life away from footy is not impacted."
AFL rules dictate a player can’t play at any level for eight weeks after being placed on the long-term injury list.
The Club has the option of promoting a rookie as a replacement for Shaw. Ruckman Reilly O’Brien, who has played the last two games at AFL level, has already been elevated to the senior list.
Adelaide’s rookies are Jono Beech, Keenan Ramsey, Paul Hunter, Hugh Greenwood and Alex Keath.
