Troy Menzel continues our ‘Know Your Crow’ series for 2016.
Menzel played 40 games for Carlton before joining Adelaide in last year’s Trade Period.
The South Australian has fond memories of his junior football days playing alongside his brother Daniel at Golden Grove. Menzel was a talented all-round sportsman growing up, but the small forward has less impressive recollections of his musical pursuits as a youngster.
Read a sample of Troy's answers below and watch his full ‘Know Your Crow’ video at the top of the page.
What was your football highlight prior to being drafted?
I’d say maybe winning an Under 16s premiership with Golden Grove. We played in about six Grand Finals in a row and couldn’t get a win, so it was a good feeling to finally get one!
What’s the biggest perk of being an AFL footballer?
Being able to play in front of 50-60,000 people week-in, week-out. It’s a pretty surreal feeling.
What’s your best sport outside of football?
I’d like to think it’s golf, but it’s probably not. I’d either go with tennis or soccer.
Describe yourself in one word
Competitive
Can you play any musical instruments?
I started to learn the guitar, but gave that away when I realised I was no good.
