Young ruckman Reilly O’Brien has joined the growing list of players committing to the Crows, signing a new two-year deal.

O’Brien, who turns 20 next week, was selected with the Club’s first pick (No.9 overall) in last year’s Rookie Draft. He made his Crows debut in the NAB Challenge, assuming the lead ruck role in the absence of Sam Jacobs in the opening pre-season hit-out.

The 201cm, 98kg, teenager was temporarily promoted to Adelaide’s senior list in May following a long-term injury to draftee Harry Dear, and was named an AFL emergency on several occasions.

O’Brien has played 14 of a possible 15 games for Adelaide’s SANFL team, averaging 12 disposals, four marks and 30 hit-outs a game.

O’Brien said he was rapt to be continuing his career with the Crows.

“I love the environment here at the Club and the direction we’re heading in,” O’Brien said.

“I’m learning a lot from 'Sauce' Jacobs, ‘Doc’ Clarke and all the coaches, and look forward to continuing to develop my game.”

Crows Head of Football David Noble said O’Brien was an exciting long-term prospect for the Club.

“We’re really pleased with Reilly’s development in his short time at our Club, and we believe he’s got enormous room for growth,” Noble said.

“He’s a real competitor who never gives up on a contest and always looks to bring his teammates into the game. Our ruck stocks are in a good position moving forward.”

O’Brien follows former Calder Cannons teammate, Jake Lever, in signing with Adelaide this week. Rory Sloane, Richard Douglas, Rory Laird and Luke Brown have also committed to the Club in the past two months.
