After beating Fremantle three times in 2012, the Crows have dropped their past three games against the Dockers, including the most recent meeting in Perth in Round 12 last year.
Adelaide is still ahead on the overall ledger, with 19 wins to Freo’s 14.
Fremantle is unbeaten in eight matches this season, with an average winning margin of 34 points. The dominant Dockers have been in front in 88 per cent of game time this year.
This weekend’s clash will be the Crows’ first night game at Adelaide Oval this season.
The Crows will be aiming to set a new attendance record for a match against Fremantle. The biggest crowd for a clash between Adelaide and Freo is 45,436 at Football Park in Round One, 2003.
It will be the second time Adelaide has hosted an Indigenous Round match. Last year, the Club celebrated the important round with a home win over Gold Coast.
Fremantle has the best disposal efficiency (78.1 per cent) of any team in the League.
The neat-kicking Dockers have five players in the top 15 for effective kicks, Michael Johnson, Clancee Pearce, Lachie Neale, Danyle Pearce and David Mundy. Danyle Pearce is No.1 in long kicks (59) and Neale (45) is fourth.
The Dockers are retaining possession of the ball more this season compared to last year. They average more marks (110.8) per game than any other team, leading the competition in uncontested and contested marks.
Of their possessions each game, 65.2 per cent are uncontested. They have the second-lowest contested possession rate (34.8 per cent) in the AFL.
The Dockers like to attack through the centre corridor – ranked second in corridor ball movement and 16th in boundary line ball movement.
The Crows have actually outscored the Dockers this season 791 points to 778, but Fremantle is the best defensive team in the competition, having conceded only 501 points in eight games. In contrast, Adelaide has conceded 680 points.
Two Crows are ranked top four in the League for goals this season. Eddie Betts is second on 29, while skipper Taylor Walker is fourth (25).
The Dockers are very efficient inside 50m, averaging a goal from 28 per cent of their forward entries – ranked second in the AFL.
Walker has kicked four or more goals in five of his last seven matches against Freo, but was held goalless last time the two teams met. Charlie Cameron was the only Crow to kick multiple goals (three) at Domain Stadium in Round 12 last season. Freo skipper Matthew Pavlich also slotted three for the home side.
Fremantle averages only 54.9 tackles per match – ranked 17th in the AFL. Forward Chris Mayne leads Fremantle’s tackling with 52 – ranked fifth in the AFL. Patrick Dangerfield is Adelaide’s best tackler with 50.
Eighteen Dockers have played every game this season compared to only 11 Crows.
Fremantle star and Brownlow Medal favourite Nat Fyfe is ranked second in the AFL for total disposals (249). Fyfe also tops the League in contested possessions (146) and contested marks (18), and is third in clearances (64).
Michael Johnson is a playmaker in Freo’s defence. Johnson is third in the League for marks (65) – one behind Taylor Walker on 66 – and fourth in effective kicks (94).
Danyle Pearce leads the League for inside 50ms (50), eight ahead of Fyfe (42).
Two of the best ruckmen in the competition will do battle on Saturday night. Aaron Sandilands (89) and Sam Jacobs (86) are ranked third and fourth in hit-outs to advantage.
The lowest score ever kicked against the Crows was 1.7 (13) by Fremantle at Football Park in Round 15, 2009.
