More fans have attended SANFL games involving the Adelaide Crows than any other team in 2014.
The average crowd at the 15 Crows games so far this season has been 3595 - well above the competition average of 2896 and slightly ahead of reigning premiers Norwood.
Crows GM Football Administration Phil Harper said the crowd figures were pleasing and supported the Club’s view that Adelaide’s team would create interest in the SANFL.
“The numbers show that extra supporters are coming to our games, whether they are barracking for the home SANFL club or us,” Harper said.
“Against the Eagles on Sunday, for example, I saw a lot of Eagles fans there who I know are also Crows fans. But they are going to these SANFL games to support their SANFL side, and that’s fine with us.
“When I walk around the grounds, I see a lot of Crows fans there but it’s also clear we are attracting SANFL club fans who are not regulars.”
Adelaide’s biggest crowd this season was the 9,299 at Glenelg Oval on Anzac Day, when Taylor Walker played his first comeback game after his knee injury.
The Crows have also been involved in the biggest drawing games this season at Prospect (4250), Elizabeth (3337) and Alberton (6196). Adelaide’s only ‘home” game – played at Clare – drew a crowd of 5312.
“With three minor rounds to play we’d love to at least maintain this average,” Harper said.
“Our AFL team is away in Brisbane this weekend and plays on Sunday, so we hope to see a lot of Crows members at Glenelg on Saturday afternoon.
“Crows ticketed members get free entry to our SANFL games, so it would be great to have their support.
“Then we have big games against Sturt (at Unley) and Norwood (Norwood Oval), who are pushing for top three spots.”
Adelaide’s financial submission to join the SANFL was based on average crowds of 2000.
