Joint vice captains Rory Sloane and Patrick Dangerfield were rewarded by the coaches despite the Crows’ narrow loss to Hawthorn on Friday night.
Sloane was at his courageous best with 33 possessions, three clearances and a team-high seven tackles against the Hawks. The 2013 Crows Club Champion put his body on the line repeatedly throughout the match and attracted seven votes from Brenton Sanderson and Alastair Clarkson.
It was the second consecutive week that Sloane earned top honours from the coaches, after the 24-year-old polled nine votes in Adelaide’s Round 16 clash with the Giants.
Patrick Dangerfield was also acknowledged after collecting a career-high 41 possessions along with nine clearances, seven inside 50ms and six tackles in a scintillating performance. Dangerfield polled six votes from the men in charge and remains the highest-placed Crow with 45 votes for the season.
Emerging midfielder Brad Crouch was the final Crow to be acknowledged by the coaches. 20-year-old Crouch received a single vote for his 40-possession effort in his fifth AFL match of the season.
Hawk veterans Sam Mitchell (Five votes) and Luke Hodge (four) were the other vote-getters, along with former Crow Jack Gunston (four) and defender Grant Birchall (three).
Nathan Fyfe extended his lead at the top of the overall leaderboard after attracting eight votes in Fremantle’s crushing win over the Giants. Sydney’s Josh Kennedy (76) moved ahead of the injured Gary Ablett (72) with a perfect 10 votes for Round 17 to assume second place in the count.
