What a fantastic opportunity it was to help create an Indigenous Round guernsey for the Adelaide Football Club, our Club.
This unique design is my story of the Adelaide Football Club, embracing our history, community and past and current players.
The Adelaide Football Club has a strong and proud culture, just like the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
This represents and reflects how the Club’s journey through football brings community together.
The map links South Australian communities together with the AFC and our Indigenous programs.
The 24 stars represent the journey and number of seasons the Club has been part of the community.
The Crows footprints represent the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander players who have been on Adelaide’s lists on this journey. Men such as premiership player Troy Bond, 200-gamer Graham Johncock through to current players Eddie Betts, Jared Petrenko, Cam Ellis-Yolmen and Charlie Cameron.
The number seven boomerang symbolises a warrior culture, who are strong proud and resilient, similar to the warriors who wear our jumper.
We have also included the R, which stands for the journey of Recognition, a movement that the Club and AFL has chosen to support.
And the Crow footprints are moving forward to help that journey recognise the oldest living culture in the world.
I’m proud of the result and can’t wait to see it worn on Adelaide Oval on June 1, when the Adelaide Crows take on Gold Coast.
Thanks, Andrew McLeod
