Coach Brenton Sanderson says he expects exciting rookie Charlie Cameron to get a look in at AFL level “pretty soon”.

Recruited with Adelaide’s first pick in last year’s Rookie Draft, Cameron has showed promising signs in his first six months at the Club. The lightly-framed forward kicked four goals and laid six tackles against Glenelg a fortnight ago. He was quieter against the Port Magpies, who assigned Power-listed player Tom Logan to him.

The Crows have the capacity to upgrade a rookie because of long-term injuries to skipper Nathan van Berlo (Achilles) and utility Ricky Henderson (Ankle), and Sanderson said the fierce-tackling 19-year-old was edging closer to an AFL debut.

“Charlie is a really dynamic small forward for us. We’ll see him pretty soon, I reckon,” Sanderson told

“He’s high energy player, a goalkicker and applies defensive pressure. A mate of mine went out to watch our SANFL team play at Glenelg the other week and he said, ‘I’m going to get a Crows jumper and put No.42 on the back’. He wants to get in before the rush.”
