ADELAIDE Oval's carpet-like surface, unaffected by the postponed Rolling Stones concert, is set to host a brand of fast-paced and high-scoring football, Port Adelaide vice-captain Brad Ebert says.

The Power and Adelaide will meet for the first time at the newly redeveloped ground on Saturday, with Port clear favourites to take out the first Showdown at the venue.

The movement of equipment and the construction of a huge stage for the now-postponed Rolling Stones concert had threatened to damage the oval's surface.

But Ebert said the ground looked and felt "top notch".

"It's like carpet, the ground, but it was also quite hard and it looked pretty quick as well," he said.

"Going from how it felt the other day at training and obviously the fast-paced nature of the Showdowns, the high intensity that the game's played at, I'd imagine there will be a fair few goals and a [high] score.

"With the narrower wings and it's a bit longer now, it's perfect conditions for footy."

The Power and Crows could both enter the Showdown as holders of new licence agreements too, with the clubs' existing SANFL licences reportedly set to be handed to the AFL by the end of the week.

AFL CEO Andrew Demetriou told News Limited he believed the negotiation would be finalised before Saturday's Showdown, saying it would "be good for football".
