Geelong skipper Joel Selwood looks likely to play against the Crows in Round One after a hamstring scare in the Cats’ NAB Challenge win over Melbourne.
Selwood pulled up lame in the opening quarter of Geelong’s win over the Demons in Alice Springs, clutching at his right hamstring after a sudden change in direction across half forward.
The 2007 AFL Rising Star winner was benched immediately and did not take any further part in the match.
Geelong officials insist the injury is not serious and that the courageous midfielder remains on track to line up in the Club’s season proper.
Young Cat Billie Smedts is also available to play against the Crows after receiving a reprimand from the Match Review Panel on Monday.
Smedts was reported in the third quarter following an attempted spoil in a contest with Demons’ player Jimmy Toumpas. The Match Review Panel charged Smedts with a Level Two striking offence, initially attracting 125 demerit points and a one-match suspension which would have seen Smedts miss the opening-round clash against the Crows. But after applying a 25 per cent discount due to an early plea, Smedts received 93.75 points towards his future record and is free to play in the Thursday night blockbuster against Adelaide at Simonds Stadium on March 20.
